How to Cerakote Glock Properly: Tips on Coating Process

Cerakoting a Glock is almost the same as another firearm. Paint any spot first if needed.

Step 1: Preparation of the Glock Cerakoting

The process is time-consuming, so work steadily. Finish your other work and make sure no one comes into your workplace. Put all the supplies near to you and keep the mind fresh. Prepare the surface for the coating to make the job easy.

Also, if you are using a proper laser for Glock models or light or other equipment, take them out before the process.

Step 2: Unload the Glock Gun

the first thing you have to do is unload the gun, then inspect the chamber for any ammo presence. Do not forget to wear protective gloves to save your hand from chemicals.

Step 3: Disassemble the Gun

Disassemble all the parts of the gun that you want to cerakote. First, take the gun out of the holsters and take a good look. Then disassemble the frame, slide, firing pin, backplates, and another part if needed.

Step 4: Degrease the Gun

Acetone cannot react with metal, so use only a metal container to degrease the gun. Pour the acetone into the container, then soak the Glock parts for about 30 minutes. You can also use brake cleaner instead of acetone to degrease the gun. in 30 minutes, and the Glock will be clean from surface oil, grease, corrosion, overheating dirt, and other problems.

Step 5: Blast the Glock

Now you are in a tricky part. After degreasing the gun, you have to sandblast it. The metal parts and polymer requires aluminum oxide or garnet sand.

Sandblast the metal parts in 80-90 psi and polymer parts in 30-40 psi. after sandblasting, inspect the pieces for any remaining oil. Check the hard surface if it is smooth enough and looks good.

Take an air nozzle, blow out the tight places of the pistol frame, and slide. Cut the sandpaper into the size and rub the rails and lines to clean the nook and cranny.

Step 6: Apply the Cerakote

Hang the Glock parts in a metal wire to quickly spray the cerakote on them. The instruction manual of cerakote has written the cerakote ratio. A matte finish is 24:1, a satin finish requires 18:1, and a glossy finish requires 12:1.

Take the mixing cylinder and mix the color and catalyst and if you use a double batch, mix double catalyst and color. For example, if you want a glossy finish, mix 24:2 for the coating on gun part.

Pour the mixer into a sprayer and spray it all over the gun parts. Carefully spray in the pocket, and trigger guard, and ensure they are adequately coated. Do not spray the coating pattern too thick or too thin.

Baking settles down the paints permanently. Preheat the oven for at least 15 minutes, then bake the metal parts for 2 hours at 200 degrees. Bake the polymer parts for 2 hours at 150 degrees. After baking, take the gun from the oven and let it cool down. Now your gun is entirely cerakoted.
